4MUSIC INTERVIEW - PART 1

Avril Lavigne On Never Growing Up, Living In The Moment And Scrapbooking

Canada's pop-punk Queen Avril Lavigne is back! Not only is she releasing a new single and her fifth studio album later this year, she's also planning a wedding to new love Chad Kroeger (of Nickelback fame).

The couple fell in love while working on her new album and co-wrote her punchy new single Here's To Never Growing Up, a fist-pumping summer anthem.

In Part One of our exclusive interview, Avril dishes on her upcoming music video, missing her high school prom, her philosophy of living in the moment and her love of old-school crafting...

Q: Let’s talk about the single, Here's To Never Growing Up. So we’ve seen photos from the video - little teasers - but can you tell us about the concept? What’s happening?

A: It’s prom, and basically I have my live performance with my band and we’re in prom outfits. And then we’re kind of like in a high school, or it could be a college...

When I was writing it, I was thinking about being younger I’m still in my 20s, but you know, like high school - and with my 20s being in music and everything, I love the concept of ‘simply prom’ for the video.

Q: Growing up in the music biz, do you feel like you missed out at all on being young and enjoying life?

A: No, although I actually didn’t go to prom, so this was my first prom! No, I don’t feel like I missed out, because I had a very normal childhood. I grew up in a small town and I left when I was 16.

THE pop princess is back with a new single and new fiance but some things she won't change, writes Kathy McCabe
Q: With your new single Here's To Never Growing Up doing the business on Australian radio, are you planning on a promo trip any time soon?

A: I was actually just there with Nickelback on tour a few months ago. I didn't have to play so I got to enjoy the city. It was the first time I was there and not working.

Q: So what did you do?

A: Well, I was just kind of cruising, doing the things I normally do. Travelling, going from hotel to hotel, airport to airport, venue to venue. (laughs) Yeah, it was exactly like being on tour and the hardest part of being on tour is travelling.

Q: Why didn't you give the shows a miss? It's not like you haven't seen (fiance) Chad Kroeger perform before?

A: No, I hadn't really seen very many of his concerts because we only started dating in the summer.

Q: You guys met when you started writing songs for your next album. Was it a party in the studio or all very serious singer-songwriter stuff?

A: We spent hours working very hard, but we were also having fun. When I started the album, it was Chad and David Hodges, just the three of us. David was in Evanescence before. So we all just sat around in a songwriting circle in the studio. OK, it was a triangle - we called ourselves the tripods. We talked, we got to know each other, we told stories, we laughed, I cried, you know. I went through every kind of emotion getting to know them and we wrote a tonne of songs.

Q: Was Here's To Never Growing Up the first song you all wrote?

A: No, the first song was called Let Me Go and it's a duet Chad and I have together. Towards the end of the album, we wrote the single, with Martin Johnson and J Kash. By then it was the guys and myself sitting around in a bigger songwriting circle. I wanted to write some summer songs, some more up-tempo stuff for the album so it's a whole mixture

FUSE INTERVIEW PART 2

Part 2 of Avril's interview with Fuse. She talks about being at the Viper Room when she was younger, how the Hello Kitty song on the album has a "glitchy, electronic feel" (something she has never explored before). Can't wait!

FUSE INTERVIEW

Looks like the rumor about Steel Panther performing at the wedding was a rumor. Thank goodness!

WEST HOLLYWOOD - APRIL 27

Avril and Chad were photographed with a friend (or could it be wedding planner?!) outside Neil Lane Jewelery on Saturday (April 27) looking/purchasing wedding rings! Since Avril had said in a recent interview that she already has the dress and have other details finished, I wonder what else needs to be done? One thing is for sure, Avril will look gorgeous on her wedding day, and I can't wait to see!

THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO

Avril's voice has improved so much, she sounds great!
