The newly engaged singer and Abbey Dawn clothing designer, 27, unveiled a daring new look at her fashion show in New York City September 10. After shaving part of her head, the Canadian star dyed her hair and added metal studs.
"Tonight I got a little wild with my hair dye in my hotel room," Lavigne admitted to Us Weekly. "I've always dyed my hair and had fun with pinks and greens, but this evening I was celebrating Fashion Week, here in New York, and the fact that I'm having a runway show, which is a major deal for me and means a lot."
"I just got dye happy and dyed my whole hair blond and then went crazy with these colors and studs," she added. "I actually had pink fingers, but I spent so long washing them."
The "Complicated" singer -- who announced her engagement to Chad Kroeger, 37, in late August -- also spoke to Us about her upcoming wedding to Nickelback frontman.

"I've been thinking about it; I haven't come to a decision on themes yet, but I'm really excited to start planning and even more excited about the wedding dress," Lavigne said. "I have a lot of ideas and I'm trying to figure out which direction to go."
Lavigne even said she's considering designing the dress herself, which she hopes will look "bad ass!"
Kroeger popped the question with a 14 carat diamond ring from XIV Karats Beverly Hills; he and Lavigne announced their engagement on the September 10 cover of Hello! Canada.
She’s rocked head-to-toe black - not to mention a rainbow of hair hues - but when Avril Lavigne makes her way down the aisle to wed fiance Chad Kroeger, she’ll be all dressed in white.
Or something like that.
“I have my idea of what I want,” she tells PEOPLE. “It might be something that I buy a few different dresses and rip them up and put them all together and dye them, or maybe I’ll kind of do a collaboration with another designer.”
Lavigne, who presented her four-year-old Abbey Dawn line Monday at New York Fashion Week, says it’s too early to get specific, and she hasn’t started the shopping process just yet. She hasn’t ruled out creating her own wedding look, either.
But she already has the right accessory for her big day: her 14-carat engagement ring.
“I can’t take it off. I sleep with it on,” she says of the diamond stunner. “It goes with every outfit.”
She jokes, “Get engaged. It’s the perfect accessory for every outfit. I did it. You should, too.”
Ring aside, Kroeger has made his mark on Lavigne’s comparatively casual wardrobe staples, as well; after giving him some Abbey Dawn duds, she told him, “Babe, you’ve gotta hook me up with one of your tour T-shirts.” Now she has a Nickelback T-shirt and a hoodie.
“I wear [them] all the time. I have to. I miss him,” the self-proclaimed “Chad fan” says. “And I’m representing. I’m supporting.”
At the Abbey Dawn fashion show, lucky members of Avril Bandaids talked to Avril and she said that she sold her house in Los Angeles and is living in France, studying French for 30 hours a week! That would explain the lack of paparazzi pictures lately. And with Avril living in Europe, how do you think this will afffect the 5th album cycle? Do you think she will get a temporary home in LA?

"And Avril Lavigne's Album?" Just completed her album. She worked with Chad Kroeger, who is now her fiance, and they did a really good record. We're in the mixing process now and I expect to release it very soon. I'd like to get it out this year, but time seems to be flying. If we don't, it will be top of the new year."
It's been three weeks since Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger wowed the world with the happy news of their surprise engagement. But one person who isn't paying attention to everyone else's reaction is the Nickelback rocker himself.
"I try not to take too much interest in the world's opinion of our relationship," Kroeger, 37, tells PEOPLE. "I just know the both of us are very happy."
Lavigne, 27, and Kroeger met earlier this year while collaborating on music for her forthcoming album. Their professional relationship took a turn this summer when they started dating on July 1 - which happens to be a special day for both Canadian megastars.
"We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day," Kroeger says. "We can't wait to start our life together."
Before they walk down the aisle, Kroeger, whose band has sold more than 50 million records, will hit the road this month for a European tour with Daughtry. And he's hoping to have his bride-to-be by his side for some of those dates.
"She'll come over and spend some time [with me] when she's got time," says Kroeger, who adds that they're working on balancing their music careers with impending married life. "They're going to throw a lot of stuff on her plate with the new record."
